Umicore's history dates back to its foundation in 1909 under the name "Union Minière du Haut Katanga". Today Umicore is a globally operating metals and materials group headquartered in Brussels. With the acquisition of the precious metals segment from Degussa in the summer of 2003, the business activities were expanded accordingly. Since then the company has been operating in Germany under the name of "Umicore AG & Co KG.
